Can we just take a moment to appreciate how wonderful it feels to have a skincare routine? The luxurious feeling of face wash, the refreshment of a good toner, nourishing serums, and the yummy sensation of rich moisturizers- it's absolutely glorious. 2023 has been the year I dedicated myself to finding a skin routine that feels good, works, and is also good for me- no nasty chemicals or environmental pollutants. After some brief love affairs with a few other natural brands I finally found my skincare soulmate!
A few years ago I noticed some lines around my eyes. Those beautiful crows feet wrinkles you get from laughing all the time or squinting in the sun (both of which I've done plenty of, and speaking of the sun I definitely got too much as a kid and in my early 20s). At first I was kind of excited. It felt like a right of passage into a wiser phase of my life and I embraced them whole-heartedly. However, a year ago I noticed they have started getting deeper and that excitement started to fade a little. I'm only 32 and I think I'd like a little more time with my youthful glow before fully welcoming the effects of time and just allowing myself to become the old forest witch I am meant to be.
We can wax philosophical forever about how women are expected to stay youthful and "pretty", what that means about the patriarchy, and how we shit on ourselves because society has taught us to look down on aging naturally; and we would be right. But I also want nice skin dammit! Plus I genuinely enjoy what skincare means to me and I've found that regardless of how successfully I get rid of my wrinkles or delay new ones from forming I just really love the decadence of having a grown-up skincare routine.
Enter Earth Harbor Naturals. I will start this by saying this is not a paid endorsement. Earth Harbor has no idea who I am and they might not ever even see this blog post. I just really, REALLY believe in them as a company and I love the quality of the products they have available.
I found Earth Harbor after attending a Radical Ritual event in Sacramento. This event had a lot to do with letting go and it was at a time in my life when I was ready to step into a new chapter. During our guided meditation I had a profound vision of taking off my skin (and all my other fleshy bony bits) before entering a cleansing pool- I was nothing but a cosmic, nebula-looking humanoid shape swimming peacefully in these refreshing waters. When it was time to get out we were prompted to put back on whatever we had taken off. When I looked to where I left it, my old skin had decomposed and bloomed into flowers so I had to put on an entirely new birthday suit. I donned a new skin that day.
At this ritual one of the attendees had mentioned a skincare company that she found and loved. It was all natural and effective according to her report. I overheard this conversation and made a mental note to look up the products when I got home. I realized after I had placed my order how fitting this was that I literally shed my skin in my vision and now I was embarking on a new skincare journey! The inner world truly is reflected in our outer experiences. Even before going to the event I had been more focused on my skin and wanting to find a routine that was better for me than my current one. The synchronicity was too much to ignore. My relationship with Earth Harbor was meant to be!
I admit, I probably went a little overboard when I bought basically the entire line of their products (thank you tax returns!) but one look at their ingredients list and environmental practices tells you everything you need to know. They define natural ingredients as " ingredients [originating] from a renewable resource in nature and only [undergoing] chemical changes due to biological processes such as fermentation, distillation, and cold processing." They go on to say that "You will not find synthetic ingredients nor artificial chemicals in our formulas — this includes no dyes, no fragrances, and no synthetic preservatives. Each of our products are purely natural, minimally processed, and healthy for your skin while being safe from the effects of mold and bacteria thanks to our advanced use of botanically-based preservatives." The founder, Ali Perry-Hatch, is an herbalist and a toxicologist who previously worked as a humanitarian engineer specializing in global environmental health and toxicology. Needless to say, she knows her shit about what's good for you (and the planet) and what isn't.
Another great thing about Earth Harbor is that while being a healthy option for us, it's also a healthy option for the environment. The company offers aluminum topped refills and glass containers which are the most sustainable options as they can be recycled over and over. Earth Harbor is carbon neutral, plastic negative, and their shipping materials are all 100% compostable. Can this get any more dreamy? Actually, yes! Earth Harbor boasts a long list of certifications that make it a no-brainer choice in skincare when looking for a healthy product that won't hurt the earth. So all the natural ingredients and earth-friendly packages make for a great skincare line but what we really want is something that works right? If we're going to invest in our beauty products we want them to be effective. Well you are in for a treat because these might be the best of the best. I noticed a difference in a day. That's right ONE. DAY. And while everyone's skin is different those kinds of results were enough to get me hooked. After doing one morning routine and one evening routine I woke the next day to find clearer skin, a firmer look, smaller pores, and so much hydration I felt like a real mermaid. Of course the crows feet were still there but I was now committed to using these products for the long haul because I knew I'd be able to get the results I wanted. The bonus? I get to feel like a goddess every morning and evening. My daily skincare rituals have become highlights of my day and I always feel renewed and relaxed afterwards. After keeping up with the routine for months now I'm even happier with my results.
So if you are on the hunt for organic and truly non-toxic skincare, you might think about setting anchor at Earth Harbor. Happy indulging!
